Taxes and fees determine how much a customer pays beyond the base rate. Time classes define which hours of the day are eligible for particular order lines. Both are configured through Setup and then referenced from orders and schedules.
Before you start#
- You need a role that grants read, create and edit access to TaxDefinition and TimeClass.
- In-use tax definitions cannot have their type or basis changed; create a new definition instead.
- Administrative setup permissions are configured in Setup > Administrator Controls > Users and Passwords.
Taxes and Fees#
Neural Log supports two kinds of charges:
- Tax: a percentage applied to the invoice amount.
- Fee: a fixed currency amount applied once per invoice.
Open Taxes and Fees#
Create or edit a tax or fee#
Step 1#
Click New (or open an existing record) to open the modal dialog above the list.
Step 2#
Choose the definition fields:
| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Name | Display name for the tax or fee. |
| Kind | Select Tax (percentage) or Fee (fixed amount). |
| CurrentPercent | Percentage rate. Enabled only when Kind is Tax. |
| CurrentBasisCode | Calculation basis. Enabled only when Kind is Tax. Choices: Gross, Discounted Gross or Net. |
| CurrentFeeAmount | Fixed amount. Enabled only when Kind is Fee. |
How taxes calculate on trial invoices#
When you produce a trial invoice for an order that references a tax definition:
- The system reloads the tax definition and checks your read permissions.
- Tax is calculated on the chosen basis (gross, discounted gross or net) before trade/national credits and payments.
- A fixed fee is added once per invoice.
- The provisional balance equals net sales plus tax/fee minus applicable credits.
- The trial PDF displays the tax label, basis and exact amount. It is not a posted invoice.
In-use protection#
If a tax or fee is already in use, the Basis field shows as disabled with an "in use" indicator. This prevents inconsistent tax calculations across historical invoices.
Time Classes#
Time classes are named scheduling windows (for example, Morning Drive, Afternoon). Each class contains up to five alternative From/To intervals per weekday. The scheduler treats any listed interval as eligible; it does not guarantee equal distribution across alternatives.
Open Time Classes#
Step 1#
Select Setup > Time Classes.
Step 2#
The list shows saved time classes. If your database has none, the list is empty.
Create a time class#
Step 1#
Click New.
Step 2#
Enter a Name. The name must be unique.
Step 3#
Fill the weekday matrix. Each row represents Monday through Sunday. Each row has five alternative From/To pairs.
Step 4#
Enter times in 24-hour format or English AM/PM notation.
Time input rules#
- Values are stored in invariant 24-hour form.
- End times can include an explicit day offset (for example,
1.01:00:00for 1 AM the next day). - If an end clock is earlier than the start clock, no overnight interpretation is applied automatically.
- Blank bounds remain empty and are not treated as midnight.
- Invalid input disables the matrix and rejects direct writes for that class.
Delete a time class#
Step 1#
Select one or more time classes in the list.
Step 2#
Click Delete.
Step 3#
Confirm the prompt. Referenced classes are retained; unused classes and their windows are soft-deleted.
The deletion check includes:
- Order-line references (including soft-deleted lines).
- Active window membership signatures.
- Stale timestamp/version detection.
If any selected class is used, the entire batch is refused.
Print time classes#
Click Print to generate a PDF/CSV of the current time-class list or detail. The output includes the weekday matrix as stored.
Save and cancel behavior#
- Save commits the tax definition or time class to the database.
- Cancel (or Discard) discards unsaved edits and restores the last saved state.
- In the tax dialog, closing the modal refreshes the setup list without discarding a modified parent editor in another tab.
- For time classes, changing the name or matrix and then canceling restores the saved values.
- Stale-context errors occur if the record changed while you were editing. Refresh and reopen before retrying.
